Frilly Halloween Costumes: Part 1

I've decided to do a series leading up the my favorite holiday- Halloween! There are infinite possibilities for costumes to lolify, and personally I'm a little weary of unicorns and vampires (yes, even I'm tired of seeing vampires at Halloween). Designing lolita versions of popular characters is a guilty pleasure of mine anyway, so I'll be doing several segments with a theme for each post. This one, as you can see, is video games.
For most of my coords, I chose to keep them fairly toned down. You could always make them more costume-y by adding accessories and props.

First off we have everyone's favorite elf, Link!

This one I think is pretty wearable in general, not just on Halloween/to conventions. To nerd it up, add a sword and shield, potion bottles, elf ears, and other touches.

Next up, Mario!

Mama mia! I considered also doing Princess Peach, but she's already so frilly, it's too easy. But I think it would be absolutely adorable to see a Mario lolita and a Peach lolita together.

Next, we have a fighting game femme fatale- Morrigan from Darkstalkers.

I just love AP's new mermaid print in the black colorway. But obviously, it could easily be replaced with a plain black jumperskirt, or another black/purple design.

Finally, Kirby!

I used another AP jsk because of the food theme, and Polyvore's lack of solid pink dresses. Like with Morrigan, a solid is just as good as a print.

If you have any suggestions for other costumes, let me know!

Edit: Added a new set :3

Tea and Topiary Gardens Meetup

Yesterday I went to a delightful meetup with my local community, hosted by Miss Tanya. We went to The Casual Cup in the Dulaney Valley area, and then onto LaDew Gardens. The tea was really yummy, I even tried an herbal tea that I actually like! Though black tea is still my one true leafy love.
The gardens were absolutely beautiful, despite the humidity. Fortunately, it wasn't as hot as it has been most of this summer (in the 90s-100s D: ). The Victorian garden with the black fountain and mermaid sink was my favorite, though the water lily garden was a close second. I would love to come back in more temperate weather, say...fall or early spring.

And then onto the gardens!

Since it was fairly nice this weekend, I thought it was a perfect time to break out my Baby "Marcia" OP. It's a velour/velvet fabric but fortunately still pretty airy. I've been waiting for a chance to wear it since this spring (I bought it, and then the heat struck).

Outfit rundown:
OP: Baby the Stars Shine Bright
Boots: Bordello
Bag: Putumayo
Jewelry: Alchemy Gothic

Mini-Post: Fanart!

I was unexpectedly surprised the other day with a portrait of me done by Miss Raeleeta. It's of one of my Otakon outfits, featuring my Surface Spell JSK. Thank you very much, darling!
You can find this picture and other lovely watercolors of hers on her deviantART page, CootieInfestation.

Photoshoot: The Scarlet Widow

I realized that almost all my posts this summer have been photodumps, and for that I apologize darlings. I promise things will be back on schedule soon.
Anyway, lately I've been doing some amateur/TFP. It's been a great learning experience and good fun (despite the record heat here in Baltimore). Last Monday, I did a shoot at a lovely local cemetery, New Cathedral. It's full of overgrowth, crumbling statues, and Victorian era graves. I used to go there in highschool to do my landscape drawing assignments.
I dislike that my facial expressions are so super-serious in many of these, but in my defense it was 100 degrees and the sun had unfortunate tendency to be right in my face. But on the plus side, I got to wear my new AatP JSK! Beauty and The Rose Promise is a dream print of mine, as Beauty and The Beast is one of my very favorite fairytales.

Otakon outfits: The Pirate & The Princess

The craziness of Otakon has subsided, I've slept about 15 hours, and the photos are trickling in. It was a great weekend! So much happened in so little time, it makes one's head spin a bit. In spite of it being my first Otakon as a single lady since I first went with my best friend 5 years ago, I had an awesome time. My friends are amazing (and make great mixed drinks).

Friday, I wore Pirate Lolita!
Unfortunately, I didn't get very good photos of my outfit (but I did meet a Dalek). Regardless, it was a fabulous day. I met the designer of Alice and The Pirates at their booth in the Dealer's room, and the fashion show was especially great this year. Morrigan NYC's new prints are loooove.

Tricorn: Thrifted, Decorated by me.
Jewelry: Alchemy Gothic, Kohl's, Hot Topic.
Skirt, gloves: FanPlusFriend
Corset: Louise Black
Tights: Sock Dreams
Boots: Pleaser

Saturday, I wore Gothic Hime Lolita.
I got much better photos of this coord because Kimmah was there with her amazing camera skills. It was another fun day of wandering around and meeting up with friends, the most notable event was le Swap Meet. I sold lots of things and bought 3 items for myself- a Metamorphose OP, Innocent World Socks, and a pair bloomers. Later that night, we watched Gothic Lolita Psycho. It was honestly the weirdest, most nonsensical movie I have seen in a very long time.

I also found a cute Link cosplayer ;D

JSK: Surface Spell
Bolero, Tiara: Thrifted
Socks: FanPlusFriend
Shoes: Payless (ribbons added by me)
Jewelry: Vintage, Charlotte Russe

Sunday, I didn't get any photos because I was in a bit of a rush that morning, but I wore my new Blacklist victorian chiffon blouse, a black and purple highwaisted bustle skirt, and all my bird skull jewelry. It was a pretty low key day, we only stayed a few hours. And then I went back to my apartment and slept for a very, very long time.

On an unrelated note, my mother just gave my a piece of actual Victorian Era mourning jewelry, a cameo carved from jet, that belonged to my grandmother. She also passed onto me a variety of fascinators and other jewelry.
